Elon Musk announced that the Colossus 2 supercomputer for training Grok has been officially put into operation. This is the first training cluster in history to break the 1 gigawatt energy consumption barrier.

Key facts:
- The cluster runs approximately 550,000 GPUs.
- For scale: 1 GW is roughly half the average annual energy consumption of Los Angeles.
- By April, they plan to increase capacity to 1.5 GW.

According to Epoch AI data, competitors are still behind in the physical implementation of such capacity. OpenAI (Project Stargate) and Anthropic have plans for gigawatt data centers in Texas and other locations, but on deployment timelines they're still in the "Future plans" zone. xAI became the first company to translate such capacity from plans into real hardware.
