What Workspace Agents are
Your workspace can now host shared agents capable of long-running workflows.
It's not a one-shot text generation from a prompt — these are processes that run in the background. You can literally hand one of these agents a complex multi-step task, give it access to your company tools, and go get coffee — it'll:
- research on its own
- move data between services
- communicate with other team members
- push results
What this means in practice
OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into a virtual employee (or a whole team of them) who shares your workspace context and works autonomously, without needing you to hover over it after every single step. Meta made a similar bet with always-on agents, though that one looks more modest for now.
We'll see how these agents hold up on real tasks and whether they start confidently hallucinating in the work chat at 2am — but it sounds like an absolute must-have.
