How it works
- At the core is a new feature called Hermes (no relation to the agent of the same name).
- It's integrated with Workflows — OpenAI's existing builder for multi-step pipelines on the platform.
- Agents will be configurable through the familiar Builder tool.
- Users can assign their agents custom animated icons.
Why it matters
Always-on agents are the next step beyond one-off prompts: the agent runs in the background around the clock and initiates actions on its own. This is a direct path toward AI organizations where routine processes run themselves. Meta's Manus already launched something similar — Agent Studio looks like OpenAI's direct answer.
For now, this is an early look at features not yet officially announced. The primary target audience is enterprises — OpenAI's main revenue segment right now.
