Codex voice dictation now works in any desktop app

OpenAI expanded Codex voice dictation to all desktop apps — enable the new dictation shortcut in settings to activate it.

OpenAI's Codex voice dictation used to be limited to the ChatGPT app itself. Now it works across any desktop app — you can dictate in your email client, code editor, or anywhere else without switching back to ChatGPT.

To activate: open ChatGPT Desktop settings and enable the new dictation shortcut.

Why it matters

System-wide voice dictation is one of those tools that quietly speeds up text work. Codex recognition quality is now available everywhere you type — not just in the chat window.

*Codex is available on the ChatGPT plan at $20/month — unlike Claude, where they're pulling Claude Code from the Pro subscription.*
