For the first time in history, bots and AI agents generate the majority of global web traffic. According to fresh data from Cloudflare Radar, as of June 2026 automated systems account for 57.4% of all web requests, leaving real humans with just 42.6%.
What's happening and why it matters
- **AI agents are browsing instead of humans.** This isn't just classic spam bots or search crawlers — it's a new class of autonomous AI that roams the web on our behalf: comparing prices, filling out forms, and making purchases.
- **Explosive growth.** This kind of "agentic" traffic grew by **7,851%** over the past year, according to a [HUMAN Security report](https://workos.com/blog/ai-agent-web-traffic-what-developers-need-to-change) — machines are churning out requests hundreds of times faster than any human.
- **The forecast came true early.** Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince expected bots to overtake humans only by late 2027. Reality beat the forecast by a year and a half.
- **Vacuum cleaners for neural nets.** More than half of AI crawler activity (about 52%) is aimed purely at mass data collection for training new models. Traditional search indexing accounts for only 9–10%.
- **Competitors confirm the trend.** An independent [Bad Bot Report 2026 from Imperva/Thales](https://www.aicerts.ai/news/automated-bot-traffic-surpasses-human-web-use/) also found bots consistently generating over 53% of internet traffic.
