US launches a "Christian" mobile network with carrier-level porn blocking

A T-Mobile MVNO for Christians filters porn and "gender-related" content at the network level — even the adult account owner cannot turn it off.

According to MIT Technology Review, a new MVNO (a virtual carrier running on T-Mobile's network) is launching in the US with an explicitly Christian positioning. The network blocks porn and "gender-related" content at the carrier level — and even adult account holders cannot turn it off.

Why it matters

Until now, content filtering in the US has been handled at the device and app level — parental controls that an adult could disable independently. Carrier-level blocking applies to all traffic regardless of device or settings. This is the first precedent of its kind in the country.
