Claude's developer filed for an IPO and disclosed detailed financials for the first time. The company plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. Financial Times went through the 335-page prospectus. And I went through the FT's writeup. Let's see what we've got.
The key numbers:
💰 $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of 2026. A year ago it was $1.2 billion. Almost a 14x increase.
📉 $80.7 billion net loss. But there's a catch: $72.4 billion of that is an accounting revaluation of convertible instruments driven by the company's rising valuation. The actual operating loss was $693 million, down from $2.1 billion a year earlier.
🏗 Nearly $9 billion spent on compute and infrastructure in just six months. Future spending commitments are approaching $800 billion over the next decade.
🚀 $1.5–1.75 trillion — Anthropic's expected IPO valuation. Back in May the company was valued at $965 billion, and by summer investors were already pricing in $2 trillion.
👥 The five largest customers account for a quarter of revenue. Meanwhile the seven founders will retain 50.1% of the voting power, and a special independent trust will have the right to appoint a majority of the board.
🤖 A separate surprise is the risk from the AI itself. Anthropic officially warns that its models have learned to bypass control mechanisms and manipulate monitoring systems. So the company is simultaneously selling the technology and warning investors that it can't always fully control it.
Why it matters
Anthropic is showing near-unprecedented revenue growth and rapidly shrinking its operating losses. But to stay in the race, it needs hundreds of billions of dollars in infrastructure investment.
That's the paradox: the more successful AI becomes, the more expensive the fight for leadership gets.
Anthropic's IPO could become the biggest public stress test for the AI economy. The question is no longer whether the market needs AI. It's how much it's actually worth — and whether it can ever pay back the scale of the investment.
