Anthropic brings Fable 5 back after the US lifts export controls

After three weeks offline, Anthropic restored Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for everyone: the US Commerce Department lifted the restriction, finding no unique risk — the same vulnerabilities could be found by Opus 4.8 and even Haiku 4.5.

Three weeks ago the US Commerce Department gave Anthropic 90 minutes to shut down Fable 5 and Mythos 5 worldwide — after Amazon got the top model to find vulnerabilities in code, and in one case it wrote a working exploit. We broke down that shutdown.

Other models could do the same, including Opus 4.8 and even Haiku 4.5. No unique risk was found in the end — but the model sat offline for three weeks while Anthropic negotiated with the White House.

Today access was restored to all users worldwide, including Claude.ai and Claude Code. For Pro and Max, access is included in the limits until July 7; after that, it's paid with credits.
