Anthropic surveyed 81,000 people: What humans want from AI

14% want personal transformation from AI, not productivity — from therapy to romantic relationships. The best complaint came from a German user.

A massive study showed what users actually expect from AI — from work assistance to ethical constraints.

Perhaps the most unexpected finding: 14% want personal transformation from AI, not productivity — from therapy to romantic relationships. People are looking for what they didn't get from other humans. Those who value emotional AI support are three times more likely to fear becoming dependent on it. And the best complaint came from a German: "AI should wash windows and unload the dishwasher so I can paint and write poetry. Right now it's the exact opposite!"

The landing page itself is noteworthy. Anthropic built it like an interactive NYT longread: live visualizations, respondent quotes, country and topic filters. A rare case where corporate research is actually enjoyable to browse.
