Bandcamp updated its terms of use. AI-generated content is banned. If you upload music to Bandcamp, you guarantee it was created by a human. No Suno or Udio. If a track was made "entirely or substantially" by a neural network — ban.
This is a logical step. Audio generation technology has overtaken video and images because music is mathematically simpler to describe. Telling AI from human by ear is nearly impossible, splitting the industry into two camps.
Camp 1: "Resistance" (Bandcamp, Deezer, Qobuz)
- **Bandcamp:** Officially went "human-only." They prioritize selling the connection with the artist and merch over files.
- **Deezer** built a detector to clean AI tracks from recommendations. [Removed 26 million tracks](https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/50000-ai-tracks-flood-deezer-daily-as-study-shows-97-of-listeners-cant-tell-the-difference-between-human-made-vs-fully-ai-generated-music/) and launched an [Artist-Centric](https://www.createursediteurs.sacem.fr/en/news/your-distribution/deezer-first-royalty-distribution-artist-centric-model) model. Still gets 50,000+ AI tracks daily — 34% of all daily uploads.
- **Qobuz** went full elitism — 100% human-curated approach.
Camp 2: "Let It Be" (Spotify, YouTube, Yandex)
- **Spotify** sees AI as "evolution." CEO Daniel Ek [said](https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-66882414) he won't ban AI music unless it's deepfakes of celebrity voices. Though in September 2025 they [removed 75 million tracks](https://www.edmtunes.com/2025/09/spotify-removes-75-million-ai-generated-spam-tracks-from-the-platform/) classified as AI spam.
- **Apple Music:** May [reject](https://help.apple.com/itc/musicstyleguide/en.lproj/static.html) sound-alikes per catalog rules while developing algorithmic discovery.
- **Amazon Music:** AI is baked into the product: [Maestro](https://www.aboutamazon.com/news/entertainment/amazon-music-maestro-ai-playlist-generator) (prompt-based playlists), Explore (AI search), Alexa+ generates songs via Suno.
- **YouTube** is building [Dream Track](https://blog.youtube/inside-youtube/announcing-dream-track-for-shorts-and-new-ai-music-tools/) and negotiating with majors to legally clone voices.
- **Yandex Music** turned it into a feature. [Neuromusic](https://yandex.ru/company/blog/posts/2022-news/neyromuzyka) generates an infinite mood-based stream — a way to retain users without paying royalties.
